Few Things About Breath Test H Pylori

Helicobacter pylori are commonly known as gastritis and it is the bacteria that are the root cause of most of the ulcers. The bacteria mainly damage the mucous layer or lining of the stomach and permit the digestive juice to disturb the sensitive abdomen inside the mucous layer. H pylori as it is commonly called have no symptoms as such but when the stomach gets affected by this infection it gives out certain symptoms which are examined with the help of the medical practitioner. The symptoms thus are quite similar to that of the ulcers and the gastritis. The h pylori symptoms include:

·        Nausea and vomiting
·        Dull pain and inflammation in the upper abdomen which is chronic gastritis
·        Bloating
·        Repeated burping
·        Severe weight loss
·        Dyspepsia and indigestion
·        Feeling very hungry one hour or few hours after taking meals

H pylori infection enters the body through contaminated food, fluid or even dirty utensils. Poor sanitation can also be the cause of the h pylori infection. If the above symptoms persist for long then the person must immediately consult a specialist doctor for a proper diagnosis.

If the infection takes a serious turn then the patient can experience, blood vomit after meals, severe abdominal pain, dark and tarry stool and he will even have difficulty in swallowing food as well.

Treatments and tests for h pylori infection
When a patient goes for a diagnosis with a specialist doctor he or she is given some tests for h pylori. Some basic stool and blood tests often verifies the h pylori infection in the patient’s stomach.  But even after that if the patient suffers from the same symptoms the doctor prescribes for some special screening tests. The most accurate helicobacter pylori test to detect the infection is endoscopy of the upper abdomen, oesophagus and duodenum.
Another simple and safe h pylori test is the breath test. During the breath test h pylori, the patient is asked to exhale in a balloon like bag. The air that the patient exhales inside the bag is tested to present a comparison basis. The patient is then given a lemon flavoured solution to drink. After fifteen minutes of drinking that liquid, the breath test h pylori is repeated and a second sample is taken for a comparison. The air is then tested for an increased level of carbon dioxide in it.
